I been coming to the 316 campus for about 3 months now, my daughter Elena who is special needs also comes with me and I was recently baptized. I feel great coming here and I know this is where I belong…

But I’m just so sad right now.

Today, we got a call on the way home from the store from my family in California. My grandpa is dying… the whole family is at the hospital right now. My mom had to take the next flight out to Cali. I had a long drive to the airport and back. I’m worried about her and how she’s going to take this whole thing.

It’s just one thing after the other. I’m stressed out. I really wish I could be on that flight with her. Everything is going wrong for me this year. I got in a car accident the day before Thanksgiving, I lost my car, i have no money, I still don’t have a job and now this… I would love for y'all to pray for my family.

My name is Marleigh, and I’m 19 years old. My mom recently passed away, and coping with it has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced. When she died, I felt completely lost, so lost that it felt like nothing around me was real anymore. I felt like I was drowning, trying to breathe but sinking deeper every day. I have four brothers and two sisters, all of whom my mom loved like her own. My youngest brothers are only 8 and 13, and seeing them hurt has made everything even harder. My mom had been fighting for so long, struggling with type 2 diabetes, kidney failure, heart issues, just battle after battle until her body couldn’t take it anymore. The moment she died is burned into my memory. It was just me and my stepdad in the room. I was holding her hand, telling her I loved her. The last words she tried to say to me were “I love ” before she started panicking because she couldn’t breathe. Then she had a heart attack right there in front of me. I remember the alarm going off, nurses rushing in, and someone putting me in a chair outside her room. All I could hear was them trying to bring her back, shouting, machines beeping, their voices getting more tense each time. They worked for 30 minutes. She had a pulse for a second, and then it was gone. When I went back into her room, her body was still warm… and then it slowly went cold. I remember my little brother hugging her, and I just felt myself breaking. Walking out of that hospital was the moment everything in my world completely fell apart. I was holding my little brother’s hand, and it felt like the whole world was collapsing around us. Like life had shattered into pieces, and I didn’t know how we were supposed to pick any of it back up.

But even with all of that pain, I’m trying. I’m about to start college for esthetician school, and I’m determined to make my mom proud. I’m going to take care of my brothers and sisters the way she would’ve wanted. I’m going to keep going for them and for her, and I just want to let anyone know if you're going through something similar to mind you're not alone.
