COMPASS

The Compass is a discipleship tool designed to help followers of Jesus grow into everything that God has created them to be.

As followers of Jesus, we always have next steps to take in our journey. The Compass allows us to be intentional about our walk with Jesus and gives us direction to continue in our next steps as we follow Him. The Compass can be used to help you grow in your personal walk with God, your marriage, your family, and your team.

It begins with Life in Christ.

Life in Christ is about living in this new identity as a child of King Jesus. As we live in our new identity in Christ, we do three things: Look Up to God, Lean In to community, and Go Out to the world. By walking in these ways, we grow as a follower of Christ and mature in the following traits of a disciple: a worshiper, a learner, a family member, a servant, a multiplier, and a steward. Hover over each trait below to read additional information.

Life In Christ
(Who We Are)

2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us that anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person; the old life is gone, and a new life has begun. Life in Christ is about living in this new identity as a child of King Jesus (John 1:12). As adopted children in God’s family, we live in His grace (Romans 5:1-2), we share in His blessings (Ephesians 1:3), we experience His love (Romans 8:38-39; 1 John 3:1), and we live a full and meaningful life that comes only through Him (John 10:10). As children of the King, the Holy Spirit lives in us and through us, producing evidence of a life set apart for His glory (Jeremiah 17:7-8; Galatians 5:22-23).

LOOK UP
(to God)

“Look up” to God is an expression that signifies turning to God in faith, trust, and dependence. It involves seeking His guidance, strength, and presence in our lives. This leads us to turn our focus away from ourselves and our circumstances and surrender to God in worship, prayer, repentance, and obedience.

Isaiah 26:3-4, Proverbs 3:5-6, Hebrews 12:2, Psalm 23, Deuteronomy 6:4-9,
Matthew 22:37-38, Matthew 6:33

LEAN IN
(to community)

The Body of Christ thrives when believers “lean in” to authentic community, recognizing that we are not just individuals but interconnected parts of God’s family. As members of this body, we are called to serve, care for, and know one another deeply. By demonstrating grace and extending blessings to others, we reflect the love of Christ and strengthen the bonds within the Church. Caring for one another is not just an obligation but a privilege, as it allows us to share in both the joys and burdens of life, fulfilling Christ’s command to love as He has loved us. Through this collective care, the Body of Christ becomes a tangible expression of God’s grace to the world.

Hebrews 10:24-25, Matthew 22:39,
Galatians 6:2, 1 Corinthians 12:12-14,
1 Corinthians 12:27, Romans 12:4-5, Colossians 1:18, Ephesians 1:22,
Ephesians 5:21, Ephesians 4:12

GO OUT
(into the world)

The call to “go out” is a call to make disciples: a foundational mission for every follower of Christ. Jesus commands us to go into the world, sharing the gospel, teaching, and equipping others to follow Him. As laborers in God’s harvest and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we spread the message of Christ, helping others experience His transformative love and training and encouraging believers to grow in faith and become disciple-makers themselves.

Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 1:8, Genesis 1:28, Matthew 5:13-16, Mark 16:15,
Mathew 9:37-38, Isaiah 6:8, John 20:21, Romans 10:14-15
